Memory Walk September 22nd

In 2003 my Pop Pop passed away after living many years with Alzheimer's. About a month after he passed away we found out we were pregnant with Fuller.

I get sad sometimes when I think about Pop Pop not knowing his first great-grandchild. After Fuller's birth, when I was in the hospital, Fuller made a face that made me think Fuller looked a little like Pop Pop. Later, my mom saw it on her own and mentioned it. Fuller gets his hair from Pop Pop as well, because that is where I got my red hair from.

What I hope is that someday soon there will be a cure for Alzheimer's and red hair will be the only thing that we inherit from Pop Pop. It is a debilitating disease, with plaque building up on your brain to cause the most common form of dementia. You don't just forget appointments or where you put your keys, you lose yourself.

A cure is being worked on, but it needs funds to keep the research moving. And that is what the Memory Walk is all about. The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk is the largest event in the nation to raise money and awareness for the disease.

Hamilton County's Memory Walk is scheduled for September 22nd. The walk is 3 miles long, which is very doable with all the walking to Blockbuster I have done recently.

I plan on signing up and doing some fundraising... once I get a donation page set up, I will let you know more. I will be walking in memory of Pop Pop and with the hope of finding a cure soon.
