I heart travel

We got back from Lake Martin yesterday afternoon. Even though it was raining in our part of the road, it never got bad with pouring rain, winds, or even hail. It was just spring showers to bring May flowers.

Now we are recuperating (Fuller is in hour 4 of his afternoon nap) and I have some laundry to wash. Tomorrow we have Kindermusik, some quick errands, and then I will pack again because Fuller and I will be traveling on Tuesday! This time, we are headed north to visit Cool Aunt Stina.

I have this thing about visiting people in their environments, getting to see where they live and what they do. And since Austina will be changing her environment soon (she's moving south! yeah!), I knew I needed to get up to ODU soon.

The thing about traveling is that I enjoy seeing lots of places. Getting there isn't too bad either, if the environment is right. I don't mind driving, it is a part of the experience. And now that I have added a two year old traveling companion, it is an interesting experience.

After this trip south, I think Fuller and I could make it anywhere in the lower 48 by car with the following (in no particular order):

The portable DVD player. We only use the player for trips that are two or more hours long. It doesn't hamper his ability to take a nap because he fell asleep both legs of the trip. Add in Fuller's ability to watch Finding Nemo nonstop and it made for a pretty uneventful trip. Actually, he isn't allowed to watch it nonstop, but that is his number one request at all times.

Juice. I bought the Dwink box after seeing it on Cool Mom Picks. I thought it would be easier for me to put a straw in a juice box instead of the Cocktails inspired drink mixing I would do before. Mott's Tots juice boxes are the perfect drinks for such a trip. The only problem is that Fuller is still a little young to grasp the concept of leaving the straw in the box. He also didn't quite understand pushing the straw down into the box to get the last of the juice. Fuller was a tad sticky when we got to our destination.

Popcorn. One bag of microwave popcorn will last Fuller for about 2 hours. I don't have to keep foisting cereal or crackers on him. I just have to be prepared to remove a gazillion unpopped kernals from his seat at a later date.

As long as I have those three items, I think we can make it anywhere. I do have the other stuff (diapers, change of clothes, and iPod) but isn't that what every family has?

Take-off is 7 am Tuesday, and I am looking forward to trying this again.
