My son makes me cry
The other day I was reading Carrie's entry about her parent-teacher conference and she wrote something that really struck a chord with me:
...having a child is like having a new piece of music being presented to the world at all times. It's knuckle-biting, stomach-clenching, terrifying to send your kid out there, hoping that everybody with whom he comes into contact will understand him, be gentle with him, love him, not hurt him. As I felt with my compositions, I feel sometimes like I'm sitting on the edge of my seat, struggling not to stand up and shout, "Don't you get it? Don't you see that this one is special? Can't you hear what I hear?"
I feel like I am constantly struggling to not stand up and yell "Fuller is so AWESOME!" at people. And today I fought back tears because I was so moved by my son.
We had Kindermusik this morning and Fuller was excited to be there and cooperating for the most part. He sat in my lap when he needed to be, he stomped, jumped, and clapped when asked. And then today Fuller did something that I see at home all the time... he sang.
At home he dances and sings all the time. At Kindermusik he participates, but rarely sings. He might hum or tune in on the last note, but he never really sings like at home.
Today, he showed that room of moms (and one dad) and their kids that a 2 and half year old could sing. Loud. Fuller sang at the top of his lungs the Donkey song. He "Hee-haw"ed joyfully and really got into the song.
While Fuller sat there and sang, I held him and peeked at his teacher who had this look of wonder and excitement on her face. My eyes welled up because this was the moment that I knew that all the other classes of Fuller running around, crying, and not participating were worth it. Fuller was acting just as he does at home, and they were all getting a glimpse of it.
And I just wanted to ask, "See how awesome Fuller is?"
Awww. That is the sweetest thing. I love those moments with my kids. They make up for all those times you wonder why the heck you ever had kids.
Oh, you have been tagged. http://angie-abitofthisandthat.blogspot.com/index.html
