A little bit internet 101
Ok, I have been meaning to post a little internet 101 here for some people that I know that I think could use it. Yes Daddy, Momma, I am looking at you.
First, there is social bookmarking. But wait, I don't think I have to write out a whole entry on that because look! Someone else has already done so.
My friend (who also writes Tech It Like A Man) wrote up a step by step on how to add sites to del.icio.us.
The reason I think del.icio.us is great is because I can keep all my URLs that I frequently visit in the same place. And if I go from computer to computer (like I used to), then I have one place to go find them. I don't have to write them down or list them all in a Word document and email them to myself, I just have one site to keep them on. And the nifty buttons on the toolbars help add sites to my del.icio.us very quickly. As a bonus, you can mark sites as "not shared" so the rest of the world can't see how you log into your bank.
The second internet lesson that I wanted to cover is about Google Reader. But wait! Check this out! Someone else has already done this too. Fellow Postie,Marcus, wrote about RSS feeds and Google Reader. This is useful because you can subscribe to all the sites you read, and know exactly when those sites have been updated.
I'll go a step further and say that I use a customized Google homepage and I have a module that lists the 10 most recently updated sites. When I click on it, the entry pops up to the left of the module. It really saves time and keeps me up to date.
Well then, my first class in internet 101 is over and I really didn't have to do much because other people have done it for me. Thanks to techboyardee.com for some great entries.
:) Great when others write tutorials for you!
