Season this
I enjoy cooking, but I wouldn't say I love cooking. I have never gotten into a groove where my life revolves around providing my family healthy nutritious meals. But where I fall short in my love of cooking, I do love kitchen stuff. From the pots and pans to the choppers, mixers, gadgets, and anything that could potentially make our lives better. Like our tortilla maker or our German cookware or my hand-me-down kitchen aid mixer from my mom.
Over Thanksgiving my mom, Austina, & I took a drive down to South Pittsburg to visit the Lodge Cast Iron outlet.
While there my mom purchased and gave me a tiny square cast iron griddle. So far we have used it at the fire pit to grill some onions for a steak and eggs dinner.
After we used the griddle I had to tell Damon not to use soap on it because soap because it will break down the coating on the skillet. We also do not use soap on our non-stick pans because of the same reason- it breaks down the non-stick surface.
My mom told me about somone who once threw away their very nice cast iron skillet because it had rusted. Apparently they didn't know that you can save a cast iron skillet that has rusted by re-seasoning it. Fortunately my cast iron was preseasoned, so I didn't have to do any seasoning on it.
The little skillet is small enough to hang around on my counter, but I still consider it a novelty. When/ if we start camping again, we might take a look at some other types of kitchen sets, but for now we are happy with the little square one.
