No longer cell-free

Well, it looks like today our family will become one of the gazillions with a mobile phone. We will no longer be able to boast that we are cell-free.

Damon will be chained to the house waiting for FedEx to deliver the phone today and then, if you have Verizon, you can call us for free! We were added to my sister's cell plan, making her's a family plan, so we have an Ohio cell phone number.

Which is fine. We don't really plan on using it that much anyway. Just for travel and calling my mom and sister and dad for free.

We had a cell phone last year, but it was issued by work and was a fancy Treo. When I had to go back to the office full time I turned in the Treo because I didn't need it and didn't want people to think I was getting special treatment.

Now that we are traveling a lot starting tomorrow, people in our families think a cell phone is a good idea. So, we dug around, looked at prepaid options and decided just being added to Austina's plan was the best option. We just pay the activation fee, and bam! We have a phone.

Or we will when FedEx brings it. I hope D isn't chained the house all day. He has errands to run.

I hope it doesn't take too long to get used to the phone and figure out the technical ins and outs. I think a personal ringtone isn't a bad idea, mainly because I still have visions of a phone ringing and five people picking up their phones. Then the one person whose phone it actually was turns to the other four and says, "It's me."

U-Doo lets you create ringtones and avatars to go on your phone (and put on your myspace page, if you are into that sort of thing). Since they have a 60 day free option, I might check it out here. It looks simple enough. But then again, I don't have the phone in hand yet.

Well, I guess we have entered the next level of technology. What's next? Personal hoverpacks?
