It begins, whether we are ready or not
Originally I had a grand scheme. And then it dwindled to an idea or good intention. Tonight it is now on the back burner.
I wanted to make sure that our family really focused on this season of advent. I want our family to remember why we celebrate Christmas in the first place.
Growing up our family celebrated advent on Sundays during church and the Sunday meal. We would light the candles, pray, and sing. We also had advent calendars that had chocolate behind little doors to be eaten everyday, if you were patient.
A while back the mom's group at church mentioned an upcoming discussion on advent and it got me thinking about how our family could celebrate advent.
I scoured the internet, got ideas and hatched my grand scheme- we would have a Jesse Tree. I would make one that Fuller could interact with and every night we would read a verse, sing a song, and pray.
Well, tonight was the beginning of what I hope is a family tradition of celebrating advent. But there were no ornaments that go on the Jesse Tree for Fuller to interact with. I just kept procrastinating and worrying about how it would look or how I would construct it.
I have all the materials- the felt, the foam, the pictures, glue, magnets- but they just haven't been put together yet.
But it doesn't matter. We still have the Bible, the verses to read, our voices to sing and say prayers. And that is what we did tonight to begin our season of advent.
Verses: I Samuel 16: 1-13
Song: O Come, O Come Emmanuel
And tomorrow I will finish the Jesse Tree.
