Trick or...

We hadn't originally intended for this to be Fuller's first Halloween where he went trick or treating, but since the W's were going to take Caleb, we figured, "Why not?"

So last evening The Man in the Yellow Hat and Curious George headed out with the W's in the ancient art of knocking on doors and asking for candy. Reports back from the street are that Damon and Fuller were a hit, with a few people stopping them to take their picture.

D was prepared by taking Fuller in his little red wagon, so his feet didn't get too tired. And Fuller was friendly enough, not really talking much but waving bye to most folks as he got back into the wagon for the forward ho to the next stop.

Back at the house, I sat on my front porch with my good friend Esther and her son, Luke the Pirate. We passed out candy and made fun of the teenagers who appeared asking for candy but had made absolutely no attempt at dressing up. I have no idea when this became an acceptable practice, but someone needs to make a law. No costume, no candy.

I should have instituted that at my front porch because then today Fuller would have lots more candy to get through for a few more days. Instead, just as D and Fuller were coming up the street back the house, I was running out of candy. We had so many trick or treaters that we were plumb dry on the sugar front. Well, I guess I could have started passing out teaspoons of sugar in plastic baggies, but that might have gotten me in trouble with someone.

I was saved when Fuller and D got home. I quickly commandeered Fuller's candy bucket (which was overflowing because it was just bucket for the sand box) and started passing out Fuller's goods. Damon put a stop to it after a few mobs of kids had gotten through the front gate, so don't worry, Fuller got his sugar high on today.

But we learned our lesson. Next year, more candy and bigger bucket for Fuller.

Before I had Morgen, I passed out candy, I always had to bowls, one with really good candy in it, the other bowl with crappy candy, I was always in costume, so if you came to my door without a costume on you got, the candy from the crappy bowl. Some kids even smarted off about the crappy candy so I showed them, if you want to come next year in a costume you get this, if you come back without a costume, you get crappy candy, I am dressed up you should be too. If you don't like the candy I give out because you chose not to dress up don't come back to my house. It's a wonder my house never got egged.

Bob gave out a good portion of Viv and Nick's candy too. At first I was shocked, but it made sense not to let them, or me, eat all of that over the next few days. And they still have plenty left to enjoy.
