Plaiding of the fireplace

wilson_87.jpg When we got the house ready for the CSTV folks, D realized that our walls are really pretty but pretty bare. So he hung up some actual pictures and has been inspired to hang some more. In a few days our dining room will have some of our wedding pictures, including this one of me in my wedding dress.

The theme of our dining room is the same theme of my wedding- Scottish! We have my blackwatch sash and a sword above our fireplace mantal. We also have some pictures of Scottish clansmen to hang as well.

The sash was given to me as part of one of the Scottish wedding rituals we partook in, the plaiding of the bride. It's where the mother of the groom gives the bride a sash of the groom's family tartan to welcome her to the family. That's what I am wearing in the picture with my wedding dress. Now it hangs above my fireplace, kind of a symbol of welcoming to others to our home.

Our dining room is a major room in our house, where so much more than dining happens. I love that our wedding pictures and love of all things Scottish will hang there. It really shows who we are and where we come from.
