Block and Tackle

Vince Lombardi once said, "Some people try to find things in this game that don't exist but football is only two things-blocking and tackling."

In the future that exists in my head, Fuller is an all-American linebacker for Auburn. Since he only has about 19 more years to get there, I figured I'd help him along. So, I bought a child's sized football and I periodically take him outside and let him tackle me (the ball-carrier). He's sorta getting the hang of it. Well, actually, he just likes chasing his Dad and rolling around on the ground. And really, if that's the extent of his football interests, I can't complain.

tackling drills

Here's a video that shows our (somewhat unorganized) tackling drills. Savvy viewers will notice the significance of the color shirt I'm wearing. Whenever we play tackle, I wear that shirt, 'cause I want him to learn to always tackle the guy wearing crimson.
