FlyLady: Why do we fall?
If you are familiar with Batman Begins, you know the answer to that question is “So we can learn to pick ourselves up.” Well, when it comes to my house, I think it has something to do with picking up the clothes, the toys, the paper, the shoes, and whatever else it is that I am tripping over to walk from my bedroom to the kitchen for a simple cup of coffee. When I fall over something, I should pick it up!
But, the question also refers to why there have been no FlyLady posts in nine days. I have fallen behind!
Ok, as any “flybaby” will tell me, I am not behind, don’t try to catch up, just jump in wherever they are! (FlyLady begins all of her emails with those sentiments.)
I guess, after eight days into it, I put the pause button on the concept. For one thing, I fell into an old routine- laziness. It is so easy to just ignore the kitchen when I walk out of it, turn off the light, and sit on my butt for two hours watching the TV, blog hopping, and rubbing my husband’s neck.
And I got into another routine- stressed out mode. A couple of projects at work collided and caused me some rather intense days where my focus was on little else.
And overall, another issue came up- melancholy. Things that shouldn’t be shared on the internet kind of burned up my desire for anything good to occur and since getting my house in some order would be a good thing, I just didn’t do it. Instead I moped, allowed laziness to creep back in, and stressed about things that I couldn’t change.
On day five of the beginner baby steps, FlyLady talks about negative voices popping into my head and writing down what those voices are saying. I guess I could have followed that baby step in the last week to help sidestep the lazy, stress, and melancholy. So, in the spirit of picking up where I left off (or backing up a day, technically), I say to the negative voices: “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and gosh darn it I have a still have a shiny sink!”
And even if you don't have a shiny sink, gosh darn it, people like you!
I do anyway....

Posted by: Tiffany at January 19, 2006 10:21 AMI am a Flybaby as well. It is not an immediate or miraculous transformation. But it is very exciting because one day you will turn around and realize you live in a clean house!
Keep on fly'in!
