Fly Lady, Day 7, my dirty secret

hot_spot

This is my dirty secret. You know how all last week I kept going on and on and on about how my sink was still shiny? Well, about an inch to the right of all that shininess was the mess you see before you.

Saturday, Day 6 of the Baby Steps, was learning about hot spots. Unfortunately, I have a hard time stepping back and finding the hot spots in my house. Since I live in it, it is harder to see. But, regardless of my blinders, I knew that this area in my kitchen was a hot spot.

This section of counter is where we consistently keep our keys, Damon's throws his wallet, and I dump the reciepts and coupons on pieces of paper that I think we may need sometime in the future. Well, as Fly Lady says, clutter attracts clutter.

So, Saturday evening, instead of watching Batman Begins, I tackled my hot spot. Sure, I was only suppossed to spend 2 minutes on it, but I had to get to the bottom of the mess. And this is what I found.

I'm not going to bore you with where everything went and how many piles were created with the paper clutter, but I will share that yes, some of these items were just moved to other hot spots in my house. Part of the problem is that we don't have a place for everything, therefore it all can't go to its place. That is part of what we I am working on- creating those places so that everything has somewhere to live. And if it doesn't belong, it gets tossed.

And yes, my sink is still shiny!

oh. I totally know what you mean about things that don't have places. The Monster that lives on my desk during the night secretly eats places where things belong (it also doesn't help that we don't live in our own place).

it looks great! Keep up the good work. Glad to hear that D was able to get the actual dvd disc. Did they give him any problems?
