Help me find a hit-and-run driver.

[The continuing story: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4]

At about 6:15 PM, today (12-01-05), I was hit (while driving our yellow scooter) by the driver of a white pick-up truck. I was traveling south on Market Street. The white truck was on 25th Street, approaching Market. The truck stopped for the stop sign (I had no stop sign), then, as I entered the intersection, the truck pulled out in front of me and made a left-hand turn. I swerved to try to miss it and struck the side of the rear section of the truck (driver's side). I was tossed from the scooter, hit the asphalt, and cartwheeled along several times. The driver did not stop. I believe a witness said the truck turned right (possibly onto the interstate) as they drove away.

The paramedics arrived shortly and took me to the hospital. After several x-rays, the doctors determined that I have no broken bones, or head trauma. I am however, very sore and stiff, and my right knee required a few stitches. Obviously, I was very fortunate not to have suffered permanent injury or death.

My scooter was totaled. Alli arrived at the scene just after the ambulance left and saw what was left of our once-fine scooter.

The accident occurred in front of a bus stop where several people witnessed what happened. Unfortunately, no one could recall the licence plate of the truck. I suspect that the Police don't have much to go on. So, I'm hoping that someone might happen to see a 1980-1995 model, white, Chevy pickup truck with damage to the driver's-side rear fender area. The damage may possibly have yellow paint in or around it.

If you happen to see a truck matching that description, please get the licence plate number and either call 311 and report it to the Police, or let me know so I can contact the Police. I appreciate any help you can give.

I'm glad you are ok. sad about the scooter. but more important that you are ok. i hope that they find the drive off. that's so lame when folks do that. i told mom on the phone that it was a little strange that last year right after christmas break that nat went home and had a bike accident and this year right after thanksgiving you go home and have a scooter accident. strange.

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident, but praise God that you are "mostly" unhurt. I pray you have a speedy recovery. I come home that way sometimes and will keep an eye out. Maybe the dude works in the area and was headed home?

wow sorry to hear about this. I wish I could help but I don't think there is much chance of catching the jerk who did this. I hope you get feeling better though.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath on them being found, but you never know.

Damon I am so glad that you are okay. That must have been pretty scary. I am sorry about the scooter but I am glad it was the scooter that got busted up and not you.
I am sure Alicia is taking really good care of you.

Damon,
It's good that you're OK and just a bit sore. That's what's important.

If a few people put their heads together, we could try to figure it out. Like Scott said, he probably works in the area, given the time and location - it may be a routine drive for him. If they can match him to the truck with the damage on it then, maybe that would be enough for the police to connect him to the incident. Then, hopefully everything could get handled. I'll just leave it at that and won't include my personal ideas on how to get revenge - this isn't productive in the scheme of things anyway. It at least sounds like you're not too angry and I guess that's good. But, it may be that if you think it over again, there may be a few seemingly inconspicuous details that you could mention. You must however allow for the possibility that he was cutting through on his way to somewhere else (via Interstate), in which case it will be near impossible to track him down because he's probably not a local.
