Urticaria
Go ahead and google it.
It is a fancy word for hives.
This is what we learned at Dr. M's office:
It is not chicken pox.
It is not contagious.
It is not hand, foot, & mouth disease.
It is not chicken pox.
It is not contagious.
It is viral.
It won Fuller the worst rash of the day award.
It is not chicken pox.
It is not contagious.
And I still won't be able to take him to the Sports Barn nursery.
On Sunday we noticed three bumps on his neck what we thought were flea bites. Then this morning, I noticed some redness on his face and a few more bumps. Then when I got home from work this afternoon, the redness had spread, bumps were everywhere, and his belly looked like he had sunburn where I forgot to put sunscreen. It was at this point we called the doctor's office. By the time we got to the office, his belly was completely red and now I see that his neck is red as well.
A nurse in the elevator diagnosed him with chicken pox.
To repeat: It isn't chicken pox.
His eye is really red and it is spreading, but I hope that the Zyrt3c that was prescribed will help with clearing it up. Benedryl is also allowed if he gets super uncomfortable.
We are blessed that he seems happy and comfortable. He seems warm, though I think that is from the four molars he is working on.
Just remember:
It is not chicken pox.
It is not contagious.
so, is it contagious?
Posted by: bobw at September 26, 2005 04:31 PMi love you bob :), btw - can someone catch Urticaria?
Posted by: stelmodad at September 26, 2005 04:35 PMI once had a girlfriend that had that, or... wait, she told me she had that. I never went back. Maybe the joke was on me!
Made me itchy just looking at it... Hang in there!
Posted by: SeanP at September 27, 2005 07:12 AMDid they say what caused it?? Was it a reaction to something??
Posted by: Tiffany at September 27, 2005 07:14 AMIt is a reaction to something, but we have no idea what. He hasn't been exposed to anything different, that we know of. To me, that is the frustrating thing, not knowing what caused it. But the good news is that it is MUCH better this morning.
Posted by: mrscrumley at September 27, 2005 09:22 AMI have a kid who used to randomly burst into hives on a regular basis. The only cause we ever came even close to identifying was a general chemical thing: twice she broke out into a reaction while we in the aisle in the grocery store with all the cleaning products -- I'd run over a couple of aisles and grab a box of children's benadryl and she'd be ok, and from then on we just skipped that aisle in the grocery store when she was along for the trip. We use all home-made, non-toxic cleaners at home, and never experienced any problems with our own stuff, so we never figured out what the specific culprit was. There were other random rashes and reactions, but never so we could figure out the cause. Eventually, she outgrew the extreme sensitivity and now just has to be careful about things like laundry detergent...
Posted by: alice at September 27, 2005 10:16 AMOuch! I hope the poor baby feels better today. ;(
Posted by: aunt stina at September 27, 2005 10:17 AMOh my goodness, that looks icky. I thought my rash on my face was bad but that is just horrible! I don't even want to finish eating my carrots. Poor baby. Was he itchy or cranky or anything or did he just look like that?
